During the previous six months, this number has never been lower. Because of the substantial changes in operating conditions, the Commission cautioned against drawing comparisons with months earlier to this time.

Reductions in betting yield were the primary cause of the overall reduction in GGY. English participation in Euro 2020 did not prevent a 19.1% month-on-month decline in real-event betting yield to £196.9m, the lowest level seen so far this year.

This occurred at the same time that real-event bets fell 6.9% to 252.1 million, a new annual low.

But there was only a 2.0% decline, to 5.5 million, in the number of people betting on actual events.

Meanwhile, GGY for slots increased 4.1% to £187.2m. This occurred at the same time that the overall amount of spins on slots reached 5.91 billion and the number of players on slots increased marginally to 3.1 million. At 19 minutes, the average length of a slot session was the second-shortest during the time period under consideration.

Gambling that does not involve slots GGY, which primarily consists of table games, had a 1.9% decline to £57.7m due to a 1.8% drop in players to 2.2 million, even though there was a 6.3% increase in bets to 282.3 million.

There was a 2.2% increase to $6.1m in virtual event betting and a 3.3% increase to £6.0m in poker GGY. With a rise of 17.4 percent to £1.2 million, esports betting yield was the highest month-over-month performer.

Gains from gaming products sold online fell 8.8 percent to £1.3 million.

With a small increase, the number of safer gaming contacts registered in July reached slightly over one million. There was a 4% drop in direct interactions, but the increase in automated exchanges was primarily to blame.

Marcus Boyle was named chair of the Gambling Commission earlier this month, succeeding Bill Moyes, whose tenure as chair had expired. Starting on September 5th, Boyle assumed the role of chairman.

With a white paper outlining a series of regulatory reforms planned by the end of 2021 and the government's review of the 2005 Gambling Act underway, he assumes the post.

Specified financial risk thresholds are one of the proposed measures by the Commission. It was announced during the Know Now Conference on Social Responsibility for Gambling Operators that a consultation on the topic would soon be opened by the Commission's executive director, Tim Miller.
