Holland Casino, FPO Nederland, JOI Gaming, Nederlandse Loterij, and ZEbet are all members of VNLOK, which has created a code to safeguard vulnerable populations by applying regulations already in place for online ads to those on television and radio.

Between the hours of 6:00 and 21:00, television commercials promoting gambling are now prohibited by law. Online video ads will also be subject to this under the code.

Channels with a minimum of 25% underage viewers will also be subject to an ongoing restriction on advertisements.

Also, no one between the ages of 18 and 24 will be able to use bonuses in ROK, and no media outlets will be able to promote them. There will also be a limit of €250 on bonuses.

Before being put into effect, the code will be evaluated by the Advertising Code Committee of the Advertising Code Foundation.

"It was not easy to protect the interests of all involved parties, but we have managed to arrive at a robust advertising code for online games of chance that has additional protection for consumers and specifically vulnerable groups," said Helma Lodders, chairman of VNLOK.

"To help with this, we consulted with addiction specialists and consumer advocacy groups."

Although ROK's initial version was shown in October, the code that is now available is the first formal release. Up to 1 March 2023, you can use the code. In October 2022, we will conduct an evaluation to see if this code achieves the stated goals.

It was in September that another trade group, the Netherlands Online Gambling Association (NOGA), which counts Entain, Flutter, Kindred, and Bet365 among its members, also demanded a new code of conduct for the industry.

The Remote Gaming Act, which came into effect on October 1, 2021, alongside the Dutch online gaming sector, already imposes legal restrictions on advertising.

Eleven operators were granted licenses under the new system, after the Act had been postponed multiple times.
